Riding the Serengetti

Today's ride featured Caren on Jake, Lisa and Kai and Peggy on Sierra.  We intended to do a river ride that begins at the Charles Bronson State Forest entrance on Curryville Road and takes you through what was the Lee Ranch, over to an enchanted forest, along the River and back again - a beautiful 16-20 miles depending on whether you know where you are going or take a few side trips (Caren).

Instead, we ended up going to three Indian Mounds that are on the Lee Ranch adjacent to the St. John's River.  You wind through the cow pastures until you get to the River. Caren and Lisa recently discovered this ride and someone has actually planted an American flag on one of the mounds.

We tried to cross the "Serengetti" to make our way to the third Indian mound but got detoured when Caren and Jake had a little incident with some quicksand.  Fortunately, Jake kept his head, Caren didn't scream and Jake got them safely out of the muck.

We then had (according to Lisa) a forty minute walk through some beautiful palm and oak forests.  A quick stop at the creek for a drink and then a "haul ass" back to the cattle infested part of the Ranch.  Rather than end our ride too soon, we took the long way back through the Chuluota Wilderness where we ran into friends Carolyn and Tammy.

Call me lazy but I trailered the 1 mile to the trail head not knowing what Caren might get us into and looking forward to lunch out with my husband, Joe at Dixie Crossroads in Titusville
